Peace be with you!
Greetings to all the friends of The Priory Retreat House. We hope this message finds you well. As we prepare for the winter months, we wanted to reach out and share with you the good news from The Priory.
Ways to give, ways to help
Annual Fund Matching Opportunity…
As you may be aware, The Priory has served the community as a year round retreat house for people of all faiths since 1987, offering overnight retreats, weekend workshops, and full and half-day programs. We also host groups who want a place to hold their own retreats and gatherings, and individuals who are seeking a time of solitude and prayer. The house and grounds are places that cultivate stillness and stability amidst an ever-changing world.
There is a tremendous amount of interest being shown in our growth initiatives and, to complement our outreach, we have created a new brochure that we will be sending out to you and other potential friends of The Priory through the post and also email. Upon receiving it, we hope that you will enjoy reviewing it, and if you know someone who you feel might also be interested, we ask you to pass it along. Also, we encourage you to visit our revamped website, www.PrioryRetreatHouse.org, which gives a unique insight into the mission and the future vision of The Priory and our offered retreats, events, and times of public prayer.
The success of our operations and our community outreach is dependent, in part, on the resources provided by those individuals and groups utilizing the resources of The Priory. However, we are also dependent in a significant way on the financial support of the donors to our Annual Fund.
This year we are especially excited about an opportunity that can effectively double any donation made to The Priory. A generous member of The Priory community has offered to match any donation received by the end of 2017 up to $8,000!
This all comes at a critical time, for in addition to covering the cost of our yearly expenses, we also need to raise an additional $6,200 to repair two broken windows and water damaged areas of the house.
We thank you for your past support and hope that you will again consider us in your giving plans as this matching contribution provides us a unique chance to make possible significant additional funding for The Priory and its mission.
We pray that you and your family may have a blessed holiday season.Sincerely,
The Priory of St. Benedict Board and Staff
We hosted the Grace Fellowship men’s group for their annual retreat at The Priory. A faithful group of guys who shared their beautiful lives.
Pilgrimage to Manhattan
We made a journey down to the city and spent some time at St. Francis Friary on W 31st. Upon entry to the Church, you encounter the statue of the hidden & homeless Christ with an outstretched stigmata hand. It serves as a humbling reminder of God’s presence in all people and to give what we have to those in need.
We had two partridges on two separate days fly into two of our picture windows! Our house guests are fine, but unfortunately our wild friends did not make it. Repairs are being sought out and prevention from this reoccurring is being planned.
“Are not two birds sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.” (Matthew 10:29)
NEW OUTHOUSE Ryan H., a local Eagle Scout, along with his older brother, father, & family friend, put up a new outhouse for our guests and hikers! A little added hospitality for when nature calls.
Thanks to the help of Bob Lantto (Lanni’s father), the second floor is now a little safer for toddlers and young families (including our little man, Satori). We surrounded the sky-lite / floor ventilation areas with pine from the local lumber yard.
Our new friend andfellow prayer warrior, Joyce, just completed a 30 day retreat at the house. On her last day with us, she was consecrated to Mary, the Mother of God. Joyce has been an inspiration and a witness to the true power of prayer. We know she is and will continue to be praying for you and countless others who may be in need of a retreat. Don’t be afraid, come, take a break, we’ll be here.
We are still here!
As a family, we are about to enter into our second Adirondack winter. We would love to hear from you or host you amidst the winter months. We look forward to meeting you and all the extended Priory Community!
